God's Promises - Words of Wisdom - Allow God to fight your enemies

1 Kings 5:4
But now the Lord my God has given me peace on every side; I have no enemies, and all is well.

INSPIRATION:
There will times in our lives when God will give us His peace and everything will go well. I relish those times. I don’t think there is any magic formula to get to that place in God. I think it is just a season of rest. I think the more we trust in God to handle our enemies the quicker He gives us this rest. I think the reason for many of us that we don’t have this is we are trying to fight our enemies on our own.

ACTION:
Are you in a season of rest? Awesome! If you are not in rest, are you fighting your battles? I would encourage you to allow God to fight your enemies. He wants to do that for you and He wants to give you rest.

A Balanced Life - Words of Wisdom - Commitment is never easy

QUOTE:
"Unless commitment is made, there are only promises and hopes; but no plans."
- Peter Drucker

INSPIRATION:
We live in a world of people who fear commitment. They are always making promises but when push comes to shove they make excuses. Commitment is never an easy thing to do but once it is done the rewards are amazing. Only as commitments are made is change inevitable. Commitments are what separate the dreamers from the doers. Commitments are the stuff where dreams do come true. Only as someone commits to a dream, an idea, a vision can there ever be a reality of that. Commitments are the precursor to plans of action to see something come to pass.

ACTION:
What in your life right now is a dream that you would love to see happen? What commitment on your part do you need to make happen? What plan of action do you need to commit today for it to become a reality?

Divorce - Words of Wisdom - Courage

QUOTE:
"Courage leads to heaven; fear leads to death."
- Seneca (Seneca the Elder)

INSPIRATION:
Courage gives you wings and fear drags you down. Life will always hold challenges that will tap into your internal sources only as you have the courage to take risks and realize that not everything is safe will you have the wings to soar. If you allow fear and the “what ifs” to control you then you are immobilized and paralyzed and even though you are not physically dead, you will become emotionally dead. Fear has a way of destroying whoever it has control of. It is your responsibility to fight it and win. I am counting on you to win!

ACTION:
What fear is holding you back? Name it and then do something that has helped me. I stand in front of a mirror and yell at that fear to leave me and that it has no power over me. Something about doing it in front of a mirror empowers me, not sure why but I just know it works. I do this also when I am crying - I talk to the mirror asking why I am crying and what is the purpose and what am I getting out of these tears. Somehow it gives you a totally different outlook when you do this little exercise.

Aging - Words of Wisdom - July 25

QUOTE:
"We pay when old for the excesses of youth.”
- Proverb

INSPIRATION:
We live as if there is no tomorrow and wonder why later in life we have challenges. We forget that the body we were given does not have a trade in at some time for a new and improved model. The one we have is the one we get to keep and take care of until we die. So why is it that we choose to abuse it on a daily basis and then complain when it doesn’t work the way it should? Aging is not about our bodies falling apart only about the fact that we neglected to care for it and now we are suffering the consequences of our choices.

ACTION:
What are you doing today to take care of yourself? Are you eating healthy foods in the right amounts? Or are you stuffing yourself on junk food and stuff that is not healthy for you? Are you taking time to exercise? Are you removing stress and negativity from you world so that you have peace in your spirit? Well the answers to these questions will reveal to you the quality of your future life. The beauty of the system is you get to choose by the things that you do or don’t do.

God's Promises - Words of Wisdom - Just Ask

1 Samuel 1:17
“In that case,” Eli said, “go in peace! May the God of Israel grant the request you have asked of him.”

INSPIRATION:
This is a beautiful story of a woman whose heart was breaking over the fact that she did not have a child. She wept before the Lord and God sent someone to let her know that God had heard and that the answer was yes. How often I have been in situations where I have cried out to God about something and wished and prayed for someone to tell me your request has been answered. Only to realize all I needed to do was open my Bible and God could talk to me through His word. This woman did not have the Bible so someone had to speak into her life the answer, we are so fortunate that any prayer we pray all we have to do is ask God and He reveals Himself through His word.

ACTION:
Have you been praying for something and are seeking an answer from God?

Have you been reading God’s word and asking Him to reveal your answer in it?

God will always answer our prayers - the challenge it may not always be the answer we want.

A Balanced Life - Words of Wisdom - Make the commitment

QUOTE:
"You need to make a commitment, and once you make it, then life will give you some answers."
- Les Brown

INSPIRATION:
I love this quote because often in life we want to see the outcome or at least the steps necessary before we make a commitment. Sometimes in life this is not always possible. Sometimes we just need to make the commitment and believe that the steps will become visible. I always think about the scene in Indiana Jones movie where Harrison Ford is standing before a huge chasm and on the wall there is a picture of a man walking across that chasm. All Harrison sees is there is nothing in front of him, but his commitment was to find the cup of Christ and so he takes the first step only then does the path appear for him to complete his journey. Things that are important often start like that. Scary and definitely taking blind steps, but I feel the greater the reward the greater the commitment to follow through even when we are not sure of the steps involved.

ACTION:
Are you standing at the edge? This is the test of your commitment! If the commitment is important than the risk of the first step will give you the answers you seek. Remember this is a test it is only a test! Your willingness to action will give you the results you see.

Divorce - Words of Wisdom - July 21

QUOTE:
"Courage consists not in hazarding without fear; but being resolutely minded in a just cause."
- Plutarch

INSPIRATION:
There are times that the fear of a dangerous outcome is real and the consequences of an action could prove to be harmful. This is when courage must take the forefront if you believe what you have to do must be done. This is when it may seem that all logic has left but, no matter what the consequences, the actions must be taken and you have become the designated person to follow through.

I hope at this time you have a good support system. It will allow you bounce off the ideas you have to pursue what you feel you must do. Often a group can help you explore some other options that may be less invasive, but if after you have gotten opinions and now feel resolute that this is the course of action you must take then this group becomes your support system.

ACTION:
Make sure you are in a support group that cares about you. If not find one even if it is only 2 or 3 women/men you can bounce ideas off and will support you when you are facing a tough decision.

Aging - Words of Wisdom - July 21

QUOTE:
“Old age though despised, is coveted by all."
- Proverb

INSPIRATION:
No kidding because no one wants the alternative of dying. For some, it is the fear of the unknown as to what happens after we die. For those of faith in Jesus Christ, they are excited about the prospect of spending eternity with their Lord and Savior. For those who are trying to get to heaven on good works, there is much anxiousness as to how much good works actually will qualify their entrance. For those who believe in other gods, they are still at a loss as to the assurance of their right to going to heaven. And for those who believe that there is nothing, then the question is what if they are wrong and there is a heaven. Not a question I would want to wonder about, it certainly would cause me to fear dying.

ACTION:
So do you fear dying? If so why? Have you settled in your heart what that future will hold? Any questions please contact me at meredith@crossingyourbridge.net I would love to talk to you about this very important topic.

Aging - Words of Wisdom - Terms with your past

QUOTE:
"If the young knew and the old could, there is nothing that couldn’t be done."
- Proverb

INSPIRATION:
Sometimes I wish I could turn back the clock on my life and do over things that I know now what should have been done. Although I know I can’t do that my only hope is to not repeat the same mistake in the future. I also realize that the person I am today is a direct result of every action that has happened in my past, the good-the bad-and the ugly. So, today, I am grateful for my past and choose not to live in the land of regrets.

ACTION:
Have you come to terms with your past? Are you grateful for everything that happened? Or, are you living in a land of regrets and wishing you could be young again?

Take time today to list everything that you wish had not happened or you wish you could go back and change and purpose to be grateful for every item. Gratitude changes everything and makes aging a blessing not a curse.

Divorce - Words of Wisdom - Check your fear

QUOTE:
"Courage is acting in spite of fear."
- Howard W. Hunter

INSPIRATION:
Often I find that when a situation arises we become our own worst enemy by thinking of all the “what if” situations that could occur. In fact, many people get so immobilized by the “what if” that they do nothing because of the fear that the “what if” has already happened. This is the time to break through these “what if” scenarios and deal with whatever you need to deal with. You can do it, you can make things happen. Don’t dwell on the fear or the “what if” situations but go where you feel you must go and do what you feel you must do. There are no crystal balls that tell you what an outcome will be or even if you are on the right course. Here is where having people you trust to be a sounding board and trusting on your intuition. If it feels right - move forward, if there are things that don’t quite add up or you are not really sure, wait for more information or for something to happen that confirms which direction you must follow.

ACTION:
If you are faced with an action, your first thing you must do is check the fear - get rid of it. Figure out all the things that is causing the fear then face it as just that and remind yourself that fear has no power over you. Then figure out what you need to do and go for it.

God's Promises - Words of Wisdom - Go in peace

Judges 18:6
“Go in peace,” the priest replied. “For the Lord is watching over your journey.”

INSPIRATION:
Whatever journey you are on in life, God wants you to go in peace and realize He is watching over you. Often when we face challenges we sometimes thing God has left us or is not concerned about what we are facing. That is so not true. He is constantly watching over us and wants to give us His peace. We are the ones that block this by worrying, and fearing. Once we realize this is what is hindering God’s peace in our lives, we can change. God’s peace is always there waiting for us to remove the blockages.

ACTION:
If you are not feeling God’s peace in your journey - examine your heart is there fear or worry that has consumed you. Sometimes it can be very small like the “what if” added to a bad thing could happen in the situation can be your blockage to God’s peace. Realize God’s peace is yours - you are the only one who can stop it.

A Balanced Life - Words of Wisdom - Commitment transforms...

QUOTE:
"Commitment is what transforms a promise into reality. It is the words that speak boldly of your intentions. And the actions which speak louder than the words. It is making the time when there is none. Coming through time after time after time, year after year after year. Commitment is the stuff character is made of; the power to change the face of things. It is the daily triumph of integrity over skepticism."
- Anonymous

INSPIRATION:
Life is about commitments to us and to others. It is about staying committed long after we want to quit. It is the glue that makes everything possible in spite of the challenges that we may be facing. It is the grit that takes an idea and makes it a reality. It is the joy of a promise fulfilled because someone was willing to make a commitment to carry it through. Life will give us obstacles that can overwhelm us but those who have made a commitment to success will be the victors in these situations.

ACTION:
What are you committed to? Who are you committed to? Life is always giving us choices, but the person who will stay committed no matter what is thrown at them will be the one at the end of the day have won on the battlefield of life. What areas do you need to recommit to?

Words of Wisdom - A BALANCED LIFE - 7/4

Welcome to this month's first Words of Wisdom for A BALANCED LIFE. This month's theme is...COMMITMENT

QUOTE:
The difference between 'involvement' and 'commitment' is like an eggs-and-ham breakfast: the chicken was 'involved' - the pig was 'committed'.
~Anonymous

INSPIRATION:
Happy Fourth of July to everyone! The people who made this happen for our country were committed to our freedom. They gave it all including for some their lives. We live in a world where most of the people want the benefits of our freedom but are unwilling to give the commitment to make it happen. We have so many privileges because of others who committed their lives for us. We are a blessed nation and one that was founded on the commitment of others.

ACTION:
How are you committed to freedom? Do you vote? Are you committed to making this country a better place? For too many they are enjoying the privileges but have never committed the time or the energy to making it so. What can you do today to make this a better place?

Words of Wisdom - GOD'S PROMISES - 7/4

Enjoy this month's Words of Wisdom for GOD'S PROMISES. This month's theme is...PEACE.

QUOTE:
Leviticus 26:6
“I will give you peace in the land, and you will be able to sleep with no cause for fear. I will rid the land of wild animals and keep your enemies out of your land."

INSPIRATION:
I find so many people have problems with sleep. I have on occasion had them, especially when there are issues in my life that seem to bother me. The problems wake me up in the middle of the night and replay all the various scenarios. I find if I get into them that I can be awake for hours. Lately, what I have been doing is when I find myself awake I say over and over again: “Thank you Jesus” and I am asleep almost immediately.

ACTION:
If you find yourself awake try my solution - I would be curious as to how it works for you. Another thing I have done in the past is have a pad of paper and pen next to my bed and I write down whatever is on my mind. I find this helps because then my mind does not have try to remember it and keep me awake.

Words of Wisdom - DIVORCE - 7/4

We have ANOTHER new Words of Wisdom offering... Divorce. Please view and pass along to anyone you may feel could use the inspiration and call to action.

QUOTE:
"Courage is a special kind of knowledge: the knowledge of how to fear what ought to be feared and how not to fear what ought not to be feared."
- David Ben-Gurion

INSPIRATION:
The other day I was at the zoo with my granddaughter, Alyza. We were watching the grizzlies when one of them came straight at my granddaughter and tried taking a swipe at her head. The only thing that stopped this grizzly was the fact that there was a plate glass between us. I did not fear the grizzly heading toward us but that is because I felt safe knowing the glass was there. When in our world we see bad things coming at us we need to know what we need to fear, I often see people spending a lot of energy through fear on things they can’t control. Knowledge is power and knowing what to fear and when stops us from wasting our energy on things we can’t do anything about and have no control over.

ACTION:
What do you fear? Is it something you can do something about - then do it! If it isn’t anything you can do anything about it - start a God of the Universe pile, put the item in it and trust your higher power to take care of it and stop fearing the what if’s of that situation.

Words of Wisdom - AGING - 7/4

Wecome to our new Words of Wisdom Series... AGING!!!!

QUOTE:
"The older the fiddler, the sweeter the tune."
~English Proverb

INSPIRATION:
Why is it that we fear aging so much? My mother when she would complain about her aches and pains would routinely say “Don’t grow old” and my response is “well then I have to die young” at which time she would get upset and tell me “don’t say that” and my response would be there are only two choices. It isn’t growing old that is bad but the fears that come with it. The fear of dying, the fear of getting sick, and the fear that you can’t do the things you want to do, the fear that someone will have to care for you and the list goes on.

ACTION:
What is your fear in aging? Are you excited about this new time in your life? Take some time today and list out what it is you fear. Then write down next to each area is there something you can do today to change that. Then take one item on your list and make it a part of your life today.

A Balanced Life - Words of Wisdom - 4th week of June

QUOTE:
"Other things may change us, but we start and end with family."
- Anthony Brandt

INSPIRATION:
At the beginning of our life and at our final resting place, it is family that will be there. Friends come and go, careers, possessions, ambitions and anything else that we deem important in our lives have their season, but it is family that remains our constant.
Happy is the person that has a family that loves and cares about them. I want to think that a family is a core of people who love you in spite of anything you can do or say. They stand by you and care. For some of us that actually may be biological but for others it may be certain people who stick closer than a brother or sister, or mother or father. I wish I could say that all families stay together but that just isn’t so. So however you get a family remember these are the people who love you and care about you and will be there for you. They are in my opinion “family”.

ACTION:
If you have a loving family - great continue to appreciate them and let them know, and never take this very precious gift for granted. If you are alone find others in that same situation and create your own new family. Be there for each other. Show one another brotherly love and kindness. Become the family that you wish you had!

A Balanced Life - Words of Wisdom - 3rd week of June

QUOTE:
"Family is the most important thing in the world."
- Princess of Wales Diana

INSPIRATION:
I agree with this statement but I have often witnessed the very opposite. Somehow just because it is the most important thing many people fail to honor that precept with their time and their resources. In one breath, people expound that idea but fail to give it the importance it deems necessary to keep it that way. We are witnesses of that in divorces, and other tragedies of the family. If indeed family is the most important thing, then what are we doing personally in our family to make sure it stays that way? A great family is not just a concept but it involves work, commitment and time. If any of those components are lacking the family will suffer and we are only giving lip service to the importance of our family.

ACTION:
What are you personally doing today to make sure that your family is the most important thing in the world? How much time are you allocating for them? What kind of commitment have you made that insures they are the most important thing in your world?

A Balanced Life - Words of Wisdom - 2nd week of June

QUOTE:
"Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don't wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend, whether it's at work or with your family. Every minute should be enjoyed and savored."
- Earl Nightingale

INSPIRATION:
I love this verse because it talks about the now, the present, the only thing that is real in our lives. I have witnessed too many people who have put their life on hold waiting for some magical event that will make them happy, or are living in the past when they perceived that life was better. Both of those locations are lethal because they rob you the most important the “now”. In reality, that is all we ever have, this moment in time, where we get to choose what we will do with it. We have people in our lives that we can choose to spend our time with. Making memories is a gift that stays with us and brings us joy at a future date.

ACTION:
What are you doing today that will be a good memory with your family?

Realize it doesn’t have to be expensive or expansive. Some of the greatest memories are the small things in our daily lives. Picnicking on the living room floor, playing a game with the family, cooking a meal all together, taking a walk around the neighborhood as a family, there are numerous possibilities available. The operative thing is not what you do but that you do it as a family. Build family time into your schedule, guard it from the daily hustle and bustle that seems to rob us of this time.

A Balanced Life - Words of Wisdom - 1st week of June

This month's theme is FAMILY

QUOTE:
"Cherish your human connections: your relationships with friends and family."
- Barbara Bush

INSPIRATION:
I came from a very small family, I only had one brother and he passed away in 2010. It devastated me. He was someone I could call any time. He understood me and not only was he my brother, he was my friend. I still miss him to this day. I have been blessed with wonderful friends and for that I am grateful.
Some of my friends are like family to me. These are the kind of people who you know you can call at 3:00 am when you ran out of gas and they would come bring you gas, a cup of coffee and not tell you how dumb you are that you ran out of gas. The secret to those kinds of friendships is you must become that kind of friend. I have cultivated my friendships from grammar school, high school, college and old neighborhood. I kept in touch and I cherish each of those friends because they were a part of my life and my history.

ACTION:
What are you doing today to stay connected to the people in your life? Do you call them? Email them? Write letters? Visit them? Cherishing your connections means making time for them in your busy schedule.

Words of Wisdom - Success!

QUOTE:
"There is only one success to be able to spend your life in your own way, and not to give others absurd maddening claims upon it."
- Christopher Morley

INSPIRATION:
I see people everywhere seeking success. Some seek success by being their own boss and in this way they are in control of their time and their future. Some seek success by climbing the corporate ladder which holds many slippery slopes because there is always someone higher up that controls one’s future. Often, the success of this person comes at a major price of personal freedom. It is interesting that at the beginning of the 19th century only 6% of the population worked for someone else. Now, the reverse is true - over 90% of the population works for someone else. Have we sacrificed success for security?

ACTION:
If you have a job that you feel gives you your feeling of success and you don’t feel you have to compromise yourself to have it then great. But if you are compromising yourself for this success then I would suggest you start looking for something that you can be in control of your success. There are many wonderful businesses out there where you are your own boss. The key is not where you work or what you do but that you feel good about it and feel that you are not compromising who you are.

Words of Wisdom - "A Balanced Life" - Wealth (Week 3)

QUOTE:
“The greatest wealth is to live content with little, for there is never want where the mind is satisfied.”
-Lucretius

INSPIRATION:
I learned long ago that before things changed for the better in my life I had to learn the secret of contentment. That sounds strange but if you realize that being unhappy is a negative energy and attracts negative energy into one’s life. So if you want to attract wealth which is positive energy you must be in a state of contentment for the law to apply. Sometimes the laws of the universe seem backwards but that does not negate the fact that they work.

ACTION:
Step 1: Be content for whatever situation you are currently in.
Step 2: Find the positives in this current situation
Step 3: Even though you are content in your current situation determine what you would like to see replace it in your life. You can do this without being in a state of discontent.
Step 4: Be grateful that at the right time the new thing will manifest itself in your life.

Words of Wisdom - "A Balanced Life" - Wealth (Week 2)

QUOTE:
“Wealth stays with us a little moment if at all: only our characters are steadfast, not our gold.”
-Euripides

INSPIRATION:
I find that people who are unhappy usually are focusing on what they don’t have or lamenting the fact that something is not right in their lives. Yet true wealth is so much more than one’s bank account. In fact your financial status is really the smallest part of the equation when it comes to determining your wealth. Some have sacrificed their integrity or their health to reach financial goals only to find out in the end those things were far more valuable than any financial gain.

ACTION:
Take some time today to focus on what is important in your life.
Does your calendar reflect this?
Does your checkbook reflect this?
Often the words of our mouth do not represent our actions. Your time and your checkbook are much more accurate when determining what your priorities are today.

Words of Wisdom - "A Balanced Life" - Wealth (Week 1)

QUOTE:
“We see many who are struggling against adversity who are happy, and more although abounding in wealth, who are wretched.”
-Tacitus

INSPIRATION:
Money is a strange commodity. I have seen that for some people money brings them joy and for others money brings them grief. I have seen multi-millionaires live lives of quiet desperation and others that seem to have nothing have such great joy. So what is wealth is it the accumulation of excess money? I seriously doubt that, although there is nothing wrong with having money. I think the real wealth is people who are more than their money. They are people with a purpose greater than themselves and a passion to make a difference with their lives. Those people when they have money do great things. And others who don’t have financial resources utilize the gifts that they do have their talents and time.

ACTION:
Are you wealthy when it comes to money?
Are you wealthy when it comes to time and talents?
Do you measure your happiness by your financial status?
Today realize that you are wealthy no matter what your bank account reflects.
Today stop comparing your financial situation to others and feeling that you are coming up short.
Today realize that the entire universe is available to you.

Monday, February 28, 2011

Cheerfulness

QUOTE:
"Cheerfulness is the best promoter of health and is as friendly to the mind as to the body."
- Joseph Addison

INSPIRATION:
I love to be with my granddaughter because she smiles all the time. The simplest thing like running water will get her to smile. We were all like that once - smiling at things just because everything brought us joy. What happened that we lost it? Did we get so busy and so grown-up that we failed to enjoy the important things the little things?

ACTION:
Today, become that child again. Look at the wonder of your world and smile. Every day there is a multitude of wonders that surround you - take time to appreciate them - take time to smile at every person you encounter. It will cost you nothing but your rewards will be enormous.

Monday, February 21, 2011

True Friendship...

QUOTE:
"True friendship is like sound health, the value of it is seldom known until it be lost."
- Charles Caleb Colton

INSPIRATION:
I talked about this a few weeks ago when I felt the reason some are not healthy is because of their failure to realize the importance of it in their lives. There are few things as precious as one’s health and for many they are too blind to see it until it is too late. I think of the person who has to have a heart attack before they realize that their lifestyle and stress levels are causing it. Hopefully they will be given a second chance to change but some are not to fortunate.

ACTION:
Do you consider yourself healthy?
Are you doing all the right things that insure you will continue to experience good health? If not, why not?

What are you waiting for? Not everyone is guaranteed second chances. Make the most of what you have. Focus on getting rid of anything that would rob you of your health.

Your Mental State...

QUOTE:
"A man is not rightly conditioned until he is a happy, healthy, and prosperous being; and happiness, health, and prosperity are the result of a harmonious adjustment of the inner with the outer of the man with his surroundings."
- James Allen

INSPIRATION:
I feel that this area is much overlooked by many as being healthy and that is our mental health. When we are at peace with the world and there is joy in our hearts then there is health in our bones. When there is discord in our inner man then it reflects in a multitude of ailments in our bodies. They say that 85% of all diseases in our body are caused by our mental state.

ACTION:
Today if you are struggling with a physical condition why don’t you take an inventory of your current mental state? Do you have any anger, bitterness, unforgiveness, resentment, envy, jealousy, or any other negative feeling that you may be harboring in your body? These negative emotions have a direct bearing on your well-being and health. If you do have any of these negative emotions then purpose to do whatever is necessary to rectify it so as to live in good health.

Never Risk Your Health...

Welcome to February. The theme for February is "HEALTH". Enjoy!

QUOTE:
"To get rich never risk your health. For it is the truth that health is the wealth of wealth."
- Richard Baker

INSPIRATION:
How very true. So often I see smart intelligent people do very stupid things when it comes to their health. I cannot stress enough that when you have lost your health nothing else really matters. Ask anyone who has lost their health what they would trade for it back and they will reply everything. So why is it that health is so important that people fail to take care of themselves to insure that they stay healthy? I think the reason is that people take their health for granted. We live in an affluent society that has easy access to all kinds of medical resources and so we don’t put a premium on our staying healthy.

ACTION:
Today make an inventory of any things that you do that is destructive to your health. Some items may be eating the wrong foods, or eating too much food, or not exercising, or allowing negative stress to get to you or bad habits (smoking or excessive drinking) just to name a few. Be honest. Ask yourself a very simple question...Will what I am doing make me more healthy or less? If the answer is "less than", ask yourself what do I need to do to change?

Words of Wisdom - "A Balanced Life" - Time (Week 5)

Enjoy!

QUOTE:
"You wake up in the morning, and your purse is magically filled with twenty-four hours of un-manufactured tissue of the universe of your life! It is yours. It is the most precious of possessions. No one can take it from you. And no one receives either more or less than you receive."

-Arnold Bennett

INSPIRATION:
A gift each day – yet for many they never seem to enjoy it. They grumble and complain about the weather, their job, their to-do list and a myriad of other maladies. If only people every day would wake up and truly appreciate and be grateful for the gift of the day. For many as life winds down they finally realize how precious each day is, or a parent of a dying child who is ecstatic that they have one more day with their child. I hope that it does not take a tragedy or the end of one’s life before the gift of 24 hours is truly appreciated.

ACTION:
Today and every day – realize what an awesome gift you have been given of today!

Words of Wisdom - "A Balanced Life" - Time (Week 4)

Enjoy!

QUOTE:
"Since time is the one immaterial object which we cannot influence -- neither speed up nor slow down, add to nor diminish -- it is an imponderably valuable gift."
-Maya Angelou

INSPIRATION:
It is amazing that even though we know we can’t speed up or slow down time – we somehow try and then get frustrated when it does not work. We fail to see it as a gift that the only thing it requires of us is to use it wisely.

ACTION:
Stop trying to change the things you can’t change – ask for the wisdom to change the things you can –and once the wisdom is given – act on it!

Words of Wisdom - "A Balanced Life" - Time (Week 3)

Enjoy!

QUOTE:
"Now is the watchword of the wise."
-Proverb

INSPIRATION:
Some say we live in a land of procrastinators’. Where “later” because the operative word for many things we need to do in our lives. Today I want you to become a “now” person. When something arises in your life there are 3 questions you need to ask yourself about it. 1. Is this something I have to do and do I have to do it now? 2. Is this something someone else can do? 3. Is this something that needs to be done but not now? Once you determine if an item fits into category 1 then it becomes easy – do it now. Often we fail to ask these questions and find ourselves doing things that don’t have to be done now or that could have been delegated.

ACTION:
Make it a habit starting today that when anything needs to be done to ask yourself those three questions and then only address the 1’s now!

Words of Wisdom - "A Balanced Life" - Time (Week 2)

Enjoy!

QUOTE:
Time goes by so fast, people go in and out of your life. You must never miss the opportunity to tell these people how much they mean to you. -Anon.,

INSPIRATION:
As this New Year unfolds family and friends need to be on everyone’s priority list and letting these people know how special they are. In the hustle and bustle of life we often fail to do the important things because the urgent things are constantly vying for our attention. Life is short and no one knows when someone will be taken from us. The people that have the most regrets when a loved one is gone is the one that never took the time to let those people know how special they are.

ACTION:
Make a list of special people in your life
Now determine that you will find a way to let them know how special they are. It could mean a card, a poem a note, a call, a gift – let yourself be creative. It is not the item but the attention that you give them to let them know how special they are.

QUOTE:
"One thing you can't recycle is wasted time."
- Anonymous

INSPIRATION:
Truer words were never spoken. I can recall days where I just wanted to veg out. I sat in my robe all day playing FreeCell. At the end of the day I was exhausted. I felt like a failure. I hadn’t done anything and I realized that I had wasted a day. I find that I have a tendency to do that periodically when I don’t have a to-do list of things I want to accomplish. I realize that there will be days when we need to rest but even in those days they can be productive and your most valuable asset time will not be wasted. For example some things on my to-do list might be call a friend that I haven’t spoken to in a while. Write a letter or a note to someone who did something special for me. Read a book that I have always wanted to but felt I didn’t have the time. Soak in a tub and enjoy the feeling of being rejuvenated. You see there will always be things that you can do with your time without wasting it.

ACTION:
If you find yourself wasting time – make a list of things that you would love to do if you had the time. Keep it handy and update whenever something new needs to be added.

Now when you have some extra time on your hands go over your list and pick one item and do it and realize how lucky you are that today you had some extra time!
