September: Communication
QUOTE:
"You must train your intuition -- you must trust the small voice inside you, which tells you exactly what to say, what to decide."
Ingrid Bergman
INSPIRATION:
This is very powerful yet very controversial – many feel that we should only go by facts and others are strictly intuition. I have a program that has worked for me and is very effective.
There are 3 components to this program and all three must be operational for me to move on. It is as if there were 3 lights and each of them has to be green to move to the next level.
These lights do not have to appear in any particular order they just all have to be green.
Light number 1 is my circumstances regarding this issue
Light number 2 is my intuition
Light number 3 is does it line up with what I know is truth
Here is an example of this program in action:
I want to go to Colorado and there develops some circumstances that would warrant me going, - green light.
I feel that my going to Colorado would be a good move and besides I love the mountains – green light.
I have been given words of wisdom that confirmed that a new location would be a good move – green light.
ACTION:
What are you facing that you feel in your gut you need to move on?
Have you listened before and has it guided you correctly?
Were there times when the still small voice told you to do something and you choose not to only to find out that you should have?
There are two components to your intuition – listening and then doing – both are important.
Once you start testing your intuition you will become more aware of the small voice and trust that your actions are guided.

Life-changing Choices WOW - 9/20
September: Communication
QUOTE:
"Loneliness is never more cruel than when it is felt in close propinquity with someone who has ceased to communicate."
Germaine Greer, The Female Eunuch [1971], "Security"
INSPIRATION:
I have found this to be profoundly true. I have been in relationships where the person when angry has ceased to speak. I came from a screaming family that got all the anger and bitterness out in angry words so I was not ready when someone would get angry to pull away and choose not to speak to me. I wanted to go over to them and just smack them. I had to deal with why did it bother me so. I think for me it was the not knowing what was happening and also the fact that it bothered me I realized that they had power over me to make me feel bad. When I discovered that I knew I had just uncovered a powerful key in my world. I was choosing for this person to control my emotions. I immediately decided that if they wanted to act stupid that was their right but I was going to not allow their stupidity to control me. That decision freed me from this entire insane game we were playing. My choosing to move on gave me the freedom to enjoy my life and to seek others to enjoy it with me.
ACTION:
1. Look at any relationships that you have currently that are toxic when it comes to anger issues
2. Determine that no one can take your power to determine your emotions
3. If you have given it to someone – take it back
4. Find things that bring you joy and allow anyone stuck on stupid to be there alone

Life-changing Choices WOW - 9/13
September: Communication
QUOTE:
"Self-expression must pass into communication for its fulfillment."
Pearl Buck, The Writer's Book
INSPIRATION:
I think the thing that this communicates to me is you have to be part of the communication for it to really reach another person. They say if you communicate with your head you read someone’s mind. If you communicate with your heart you reach their heart. I think to be effective you have to do both. When you share not only your knowledge but your passion and your heart you not only feel fulfilled I feel that your listener feels validated and fulfilled.
ACTION:
1. When you think of the people you engage in conversation with do you find yourself talking from your heart or your head or both?
2. Are there people who you currently talk from one side that maybe you would like to expand to one of the other areas?
3. What is keeping you from fully interacting with them on all levels?
4. The next time you talk to this person change it up a bit and see what happens. Ask them for feedback how did they feel about this conversation. Tell them you are doing it for a test you are taking on communication. It could be a real eye opener. I would love to hear how it went you can reach me at Meredith@crossingyourbridge.net

Life-changing Choices WOW - 9/6
September: Communication
QUOTE:
"It is not so much the content of what one says as the way in which one says it. However important the thing you say, what's the good of it if not heard or, being heard, not felt."
Sylvia Ashton-Warner
INSPIRATION:
I found out that there are 7 levels of communication.
Level 1: What I say
Level 2: How I say it
Level 3: What I mean by what I say,
Level 4: What someone hears
Level 5: What they think I said
Level 6: What they think I meant when I said it
Level 7: My body language while I am saying it
At any of those levels there can be a breakdown a miscommunication that can cause challenges. All that to say is that to be felt takes into consideration many factors.
ACTION:
1. Have you ever considered all these things when speaking – I dare say for the most part we don’t because if we did we probably would never speak.
2. So why is it important well because often communication breaks down or you want to communicate something very important then looking at all these levels can help see where there may be areas of improvement.
a. There are some great techniques in communication and of them is getting feedback from your listener.
i. When you are talking ask them what do you think I said,
ii. how did you feel when I said it?
iii. Did my body language convey the same message?
iv. This is a great dialogue tool to help when it seems there is always miscommunications and you find yourself saying things like you never listen to me or I can’t seem to get through to you.
